The character I chose to compare, was Laura the daughter of Amanda. I chose to compare her to Celie from the color purple, because they both share that insecurity and low self esteem throughout both novels. Amanda has the idea stuck in her mind that she wont get gentleman callers because she isn't pretty enough and she uses the word " crippled" to hide herself from the outside world, because of her disability she feels as if men are going to make fun of her, so she doesn't even try. In the color purple Celie also is insecure and she doesn't have fun because she lets her self esteem bring her down from doing new things.

I feel like Tom and Amanda are similar to Willy Loman and his son Biff from The Death of a Salesman because Amanda starts complaining about how Tom come home late every night. She's disappointed because he is always out at night and she wants him to focus on his job.

The Glass Menagerie has a lot of characters that show a complex personality, however, Tom Wingfield is a lot like Walter Lee Younger from A Raisin In The Sun. Tom is Amanda's son and Laura brother that works in a shoe shop to support his family. He is tired oh his routine that repeats himself and finds solace in alcohol and movies.Walter is a husband and tired of being a chauffeur to rich white people. He want to see his family stop struggling to make ends meet and for them to become rich. He wants a better lifestyle for himself and dreams or inspire to become a successful business man.

Amanda Wingfield so far seem very controlling and very stern towards her children especially her daughter, but then again she wanted the best for them. The person Amanda remind me of is Walter who indeed wanted the best for his son and his family. Laura is sick and she's very shy. She always had to abide by her mother's rules, which remind me of Celie from The Color Purple. Celie had always had to abide by her husbands rules as well as many others.

Amanda and Linda from Death of a Salesman are similar because they are both mothers. Also, Amanda cares too much about the actions of her son and daughter. Linda also cares about Happy and Biff, and shows how a mother worries about a husband too. I think that these two plays have more similar characters such as Biff and Tom, who just want to live their lives independently, and don't tell much abotu their feelings or actions to their mothers.

The play, Glass Menagerie has alot of similarities to book/play such as a Raisin in the Sun and Death of a Salesman. All books are based primarily on lower class families. Also these books have similar characters and can be seen from Amanda,Willy, and Walter Lee.

I totally agree with the point you made, I really understand the fact that all three characters have a very similar problem where they did something in their past life that had made their families mad at them. Its very interesting that these books have such similar character dynamics.

The play "The Glass Menagerie" by Tennessee Williams has a lot of similarities to other books and plays such as the Raisin in the Sun and the Death of a Salesman. All these books are based on families with a low income and poor neighborhood. Not only that but the characters have similar qualities that is visibly seen by Amanda, Willy, and Walter Lee.

Tom from The Glass Menagerie is very loud and outgoing. He is outspoken and does what he wants to do. Toms character reminds me of Biff from Death of a Salesman. Biff and Tom want to live out their lives the way they want too. They refuse to go by the dreams their parents have set for them. Tom say "you think...he is gone", pg 23. Tome just like hates the job he has now and although he doesn't know what he wants to be yet, he knows that his current job isn't cutting it.
